Am. Samoa's very own orthopedic surgeon

The LBJ hospital has its first Samoan orthopedic surgeon, based in the territory, Dr. Naseri Aitaoto of Nua and Seetaga.

The LBJ Chief Executive Officer, Dr Ledua Akapusi, has relayed good news for American Samoa, having its first Samoan Orthopedic Surgeon based at the LBJ.

Orthopedic surgeons specialize in the musculoskeletal system - the bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, and muscles essential to movement and everyday life.

In a press conference today, Dr. Ledua said Dr. Aitaoto completed his specialist exams last month and has received his fellowship from the Pacific Island Health Association in partnership with the Australian Orthopedic Association.

Dr Aitaoto acknowledged the American Samoa Government, his family, and the LBJ hospital for supporting him through his years of studying and confirmed that he would return next May to work at the LBJ hospital to serve the people of American Samoa.

The doctor also urged the government to continue to pursue medical students in specialized areas to better medical services in the territory.
