American Samoa bids farewell to Rep Alumamalu Ale Filoialii
Governor Lemanu P. S. Mauga and Lieutenant Governor Talauega E. V. Ale paid solemn tribute to the late House Representative Alumamalu Ale Filoialii during a heartfelt funeral service held on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at the Rex H. Lee Auditorium in Utulei.
Esteemed dignitaries, clergy members, colleagues, constituents, village and community leaders bade farewell to a dedicated public servant and delivered remarks that echoed the remarkable contributions and resolute devotion demonstrated by Representative Alumamalu.
In his address, Governor Lemanu expressed profound admiration for Representative Alumamalu's enduring legacy.
"With heavy hearts, we gather here today to honor the memory of a true champion of the people, Representative Alumamalu. "His unwavering dedication to public service has left an indelible mark on our territory."
Governor Lemanu underscored the late representative's exceptional tautua in the church, military, community, and legislature, emphasizing his advocacy for his district in Manu’a and its challenges, the youth, and for justice.
He extended his heartfelt condolences to the representative's family, friends, and colleagues.
“Honorable Alumamalu’s dedication and contributions will forever be etched in the annals of the territory’s history,” Governor Lemanu remarked.
Representative Alumamalu served two terms in the Legislature, first elected in 2020 by the citizens of Ta’u, Manu’a, and re-elected in 2022 to the 38th Legislature, where he faithfully served until his passing on June 18, 2023.
He proudly served with honor in the military for over 21 years, and retired in 2018. Representative Alumamalu dedicated three years of service as a pastor at the Congregational Christian Church of American Samoa (CCCAS) in the village of Asili.
In his final years, he was a member of CCCAS Aasu where he would serve as an Interim Pastor when needed.
He is survived by his wife, children and grandchildren.
