ASVB and ASCC complete hospitality industry programs
The American Samoa Visitors Bureau (ASVB) takes pride in announcing the successful completion of the Basic Customer Service Applications and Introduction to Hospitality Management courses, offered through a partnership with the American Samoa Community College (ASCC) Adult Education program.
This significant achievement reflects ASVB and ASCC’s commitment to developing and building capacity within the Tourism industry in American Samoa.
Under the leadership of Taimalelagi Minnie Tuia, ASVB has developed the primary customer service applications and introduction to hospitality management courses to be accessible to all interested participants through the ASCC Adult Education program allowing students who complete the courses to earn Course Education Units (CEU).
This collaboration aims to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in the rapidly expanding hospitality industry.
Expressing her excitement about the partnership, Taimalelagi Minnie Tuia stated, "We are thrilled to have partnered with ASCC in creating the beginning of a comprehensive hospitality program.
"By nurturing our local talent, we can ensure that American Samoa's unique cultural heritage and breathtaking natural beauty are showcased through exceptional customer service and hospitality experiences.
"Thank you to the capable staff of ASCC for facilitating the courses and ensuring the success of this combined effort."
ASCC President Dr. Rosevonne Pato was in attendance to celebrate this milestone stating that the participants should be proud of such an accomplishment as they were recognized as the pilot group for the program.
President Pato expressed her heartfelt gratitude as this has been in the pipeline for quite some time. The Basic Customer Service Applications course provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of customer service principles, emphasizing effective communication, problem-solving, and customer engagement.
Students gained valuable insights into building positive customer relationships, enhancing their ability to create memorable experiences.
In the Introduction to Hospitality Management course, students received a broad overview of the hospitality industry, including career opportunities, basic management skills, and visitor expectations.
Through practical exercises and discussions of shared experiences, students gained a deeper understanding and were introduced to a more realistic approach to the Hospitality Industry.
The successful completion of these programs marks a significant milestone for both ASVB and ASCC, as they collectively strive to develop a robust and industry-aligned hospitality curriculum.
The first 11 participants were awarded their certificates on Monday, the 7th of August, during a short intimate ceremony held at the ASVB Conference room. Future Hospitality Courses will be announced in the near future, and we encourage all to take advantage of this unique and rewarding opportunity.
