Day care centers will close to curb the spread of RSV

DHSS Director’s Office, Tuesday, June 13, 2023 - DHSS Director Muavaefa’atasi John E. Suisala advises parents and the general public that all childcare facilities will close until further notice, starting Wednesday, June 14, 2023.
Lieutenant Governor Talauega E. V. Ale approved this closure based on a recommendation from the Department of Health and the LBJ because of the high number of children presenting with symptoms of the highly contagious Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV).
RSV is a common respiratory virus that usually causes mild, cold-like symptoms (runny nose, decreased appetite, coughing, sneezing, fever, wheezing).
Most people recover in a week or two, but RSV can be serious, especially for infants and older adults.
