DHS investigates fake profiles posting inappropriate content

The Department of Homeland Security is investigating people's identities behind a fake page that recently posted photos of naked people taken from within their homes.

Director Samana Semo Ve’ave’a told KVKZ this is a violation of people’s privacy, photos taken of people from inside their homes.

Then these keyboard warriors post these x-rated photos on social media. The Director said cyberbullying is a significant issue in the territory.

Cyberbullying occurs using electronic technology, including mean text messages or emails, rumours sent by email or posted on social networking sites, embarrassing pictures, videos, websites, or fake profiles. News and images can be posted anonymously and distributed quickly to a broad audience through social media.

The Director said the recent case was posted on Facebook, of a woman in Pago Pago getting out of the shower, and these X-rated photos were shared widely on social media.

He reminds members of the public that cyberbullying is illegal.
