DOE travels must be approved by Gov's office

The Department of Education has been put on notice by Governor Lemanu Palepoi Sialega Mauga, over the department’s travels.

In a memorandum of understanding issued this week, Lemanu said Travel Authorizations issued by the American Samoa Department of Education and Proper stewardship of the resources of the American Samoa Government should be of utmost importance to everyone in ASG.

It is the government’s duty to see that expenditures are made and monitored appropriately.

To that end, effective immediately, all Travel Authorizations to be issued by the American Samoa Department of Education will be reviewed by the Governor's Office for approval until further notice.

To date, the Department of Education has been overseen by Deputy Directors in the absence of Director Talauega Dr Samasoni Asaeli.
