Faaivae Iuli Alex Godinet appointed as Western District Governor

Governor Lemanu Palepoi Sialega Mauga has appointed High Chief Faiivae Alex Godinet as the Western District of American Samoa.


This was confirmed in a statement issued by the Office of the Governor today.


The Western District Governor position was vacant after the passing of Fuamatu Joseph Vito Fuamatu in March this year.


The statement reads that Chiefs of the Western District Council met and submitted their recommendation to the Secretary of Samoan Affairs of Faaivae as their candidate. The appointment is effective immediately.


Faaivae is currently the Senator for the Fofo District since 2017.


He served as the president of Football Federal American Samoa since 2007 and also served as vice president of the Oceania Football Confederation.


After serving in several local government positions, he was appointed as Chief of Staff for the Late Congressman, Faleomavaega Eni Hunkin.


In 2020, Faaivae opted to run for Officer as Lt Governor during the Gubernatorial General Election, running mate to former Senate President Gaoteote Palaie Tofau.
