Four candidates contesting in Manu'a District#1 Special Election
Four candidates have been confirmed to contest in the upcoming Special Election for Manu’a District #1 in the House of Representatives.
This was confirmed in a statement by the Chief Election Office, Uiagalelei Lealofi.
He said that based upon the Nomination Petitions filed and other documents on record with the Election Office, he had determined the four individuals Faauifono Vaitautolu, Leifitele Aliitama Sotoa; Mailo Oge T. Nua and Paepaetele Mapu Jamias are eligible to qualify as candidates for September 12, 2023.
The seat is vacant following the untimely passing of Representative Alumamalu Ale Filioali’i. Furthermore, the Election Office is now accepting requests for outside absentee ballots for uniformed service voters, overseas voters, and students attending school outside of American Samoa.
The last day to request an outside absentee ballot is 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 28, 2023. To request an off-island absentee ballot, visit the election office website.
