By: Tosimaeʻa Tupua
Honorable Governor Lemanu P. S Mauga has appointed Mr David Vargas as American Samoa's Acting Public Defender. General Memorandum No 095-22 issued this afternoon says pursuant to ASCA 4.0111(b), 4.0112 (a) and 4.0320, I hereby appoint David Vargas as the Acting Public Defender.
The territory has been without a Public Defender since the beginning of this month after PD Michael White resigned. White has been the only Public Defender attorney since the departure of Assistant Public Defender Ryan Anderson in March. White has served for four years as Public Defender and was Deputy Public Defender for six years.
