Honorable Governor Lemanu P. S Mauga and his team of 6 government officials left Tutuila on a charter flight to assess the situation in Manua.
The visit was supposed to start in Ofu this morning, but poor weather made it impossible for the aircraft to land so the inspection started in Fitiuta and then Tau. If weather permits then the Governor and team will travel to Ofu and Olosega.
At the airport this morning, Honorable Governor Lemanu said, it is important for the Government to know how our people in Manua are coping with the situation there, especially families now camping in schools across the Manua for fear of a tsunami.
The first team of first responders including volcanologist Natalia Deligne and Weather Bureau’s Elinor Lutu-McMoore left Tutuila on Saturday. They have been working non stop since arriving to do outreach programs in Ofu, Olosega and Tau as well as assisting families with their evacuation plans in the event of an explosion.
Governor Lemanu and his team are scheduled to return to Tutuila this evening at 5:00pm.
