Gov Lemanu Presents $500,000 donation to AidMaui Wildfire victims on behalf of American Samoa

On Friday, September 29, 2023, the Honorable Governor Lemanu P. S. Mauga, accompanied by a delegation from American Samoa, together with the Hawaii Samoan clergy members from various denominations, gathered at the State Capitol in Honolulu, Hawaii, for a heartwarming display of unity and compassion.

The purpose of the assembly was to present a generous donation of $500,000 and 100 cases of tuna, symbolizing the unwavering support and solidarity of the people of American Samoa for the victims of Lahaina, Maui.

The event commenced with a warm welcome from Honorable Josh Green, Governor of Hawaii, who expressed his gratitude to everyone in attendance for their remarkable gesture of kindness.

Following the welcome remarks, a hymn of gratitude and unity resonated in the room.

The opening Prayer was led by Pastor Malaeotofiga Levaula, who also shared inspirational words from the Scripture. Pastor Levaula emphasized the spirit of singing songs of praise and the embodiment of the first and second great commandments - to love God and love one another, in correlation of a closely knit Pacific Community while giving in times of need and sharing each other’s burdens.

Chief of Staff Loa Tuimavave T. Laupola delivered the traditional salutations, formally addressing Governor Green and his cabinet, and the Government of the State of Hawaii. In a traditional expression of profound relationship, Paramount Chief Mauga T. Asuega presented a Samoan Ula Fala, a distinguished Chief’s adornment, as a symbol of respect and goodwill. Governor Lemanu shared his sentiments with Governor Green, and stressed the importance of unity and solidarity, highlighting the interconnectedness of their communities.

He further expressed, “American Samoa will continue to foster this friendship, encouraging cooperation and collaboration to achieve common goals.”

Governor Lemanu conveyed his sincere appreciation to Governor Green for consistently being a staunch supporter of the Samoan people. Governor Green concluded the presentation with a heartfelt thanks to Governor Lemanu and the people of American Samoa stating, “It is through the generosity of friends like American Samoa that we are reminded of the resilience and strength of our Pacific Island community.”

He further expressed, “Thank you for your unwavering support and friendship.

Please accept our warmest regards and best wishes for the prosperity and well being of American Samoa.”

Governor Green presented an official Letter of Gratitude to Governor Lemanu on behalf of the state of Hawaii.
