Lt. Governor Talauega addresses abortion in Am. Samoa

By: Tosimaeʻa Tupua

On June 24, the US Supreme Court officially overturned the ruling that made abortion legal in the United States. According to the decision, the legality of abortion will be up to the states. As a territory of the US, the decision by the highest court in the nation has been the main topic of discussion on social media. Addressing concerns raised by some members of the public about Roe v Wade, Lt Governor Talauega said abortion is legal here in American Samoa to limited situations and both of them has to do with the health of the mother and that is found in the American Samoa Code annotated sections 46, 3901 to 3904.

Many leaders from around the world have spoken out against the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, a ruling they say will restrict access to abortion in the United States as other countries broaden abortion rights.

I agree with the law we have in our territory. It's ONLY ALLOWED if the LAST RESULT to save a mother's life! BUT it's NOT for KILLING your UNWANTED baby because your "pregnant" by your boyfriend or husband then "dumped you" and left with another woman! There's a lot of "couples or people out there that "would love to adopt them" if you don't want it! So DO THE RIGHT THING if you became pregnant and you "don't want it"...smdh...And also be smart! This is 2022, not 1972! Smart up and think hard before you "do it". Get pregnancy protection! there's a lot of "different pregnancy prevention ways and products" you can use

It's hilarious how you say that so many couples would want to adopt the baby when the world has nearly 140 million of those same babies in orphanages today. I also find it pretty contradicting how you're over here preaching about moral rights while also judging the decisions of another person. Religion aside, a person should have rights to their own body. This literally makes a woman's body 75% her own and 25% the government.
