Multimillion fono building will be completed by May 2024

The new multimillion fono building will be completed by next year.

This is according to the Director of Public Works Faleosina Voigt House and Senate joint budget hearing this morning.

This project started in August 2018, and Paramount Builders are constructing it. Senate President Tuaolo Manaia Fruean said the last time they met at his office with the Speaker of the House, the set date for the project to be completed was June this year, which is now August.

Faleosina explained the structure of the building will be done this year, but installing office equipment, furniture, etc., is why the set date would be next year.

However, regarding their office that will go up next to the Fono building, the delay is due to the shortage of supplies such as cement, given the number of infrastructure ongoing right now. She said this project is an icon building, and the new tentative completion date is between April and May.

Tuaolo queried whether the government would penalize the company given the delay, but Faleosina said the delay was justified because the lack of supplies is beyond the company’s control.
