No tsunami, after 7.4 magnitude earthquake
In the early hours this morning, an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.4 was recorded about 176 miles southwest of Savaii Island.
This is according to a bulletin notice issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii.
The bulletin was issued within minutes indicating that based on all available data there is no tsunami threat to American Samoa from this earthquake.
Furthermore, the bulletin says that some areas of the territory may have experienced very strong shaking.
However, in neighboring Samoa, a tsunami advisory was issued was canceled not long after.
