NOAA's public hearing on green sea turtles, set for August 16

The National Oceania Administration of Fisheries and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service are seeking comments on their proposals to designate critical habitat for the green sea turtle under the Endangered Species Act.

NOAA Fisheries’ proposed critical marine habitat includes nearshore waters from the mean high water line to 20 meters deep.

U.S. Fish and Wildlife’s proposed terrestrial critical habitat includes nesting beaches.

A public hearing is called on August 16, 2023, at the Lee Auditorium, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. NOAA’s local liaison Fuiavailiili Keniseli Lafaele spoke to KVZK regarding this critical issue.
