S&R official charged for DUI

Former Acting Director of the Search and Rescue Department Faamasino Galoia was arrested over the weekend for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Galoia was arrested for DUI on the 19 of August, in Ili'ili. District Court Clerks confirmed with KVKZ news that he posted a bond of $500.

He appeared on Monday before the District Court and is scheduled to appear again next week for his status hearing.

It is still being determined whether Galoia is still employed with the Search and Rescue Department, as efforts to get confirmation were unsuccessful as of press time.

He was appointed Acting Director last June, but his nomination was rejected in the Senate.

He was then reappointed as Acting until the previous week when Acting Governor Talauega E. V. Ale confirmed the appointment of former Police Commissioner Save Liuato Tuitele as Director of the Search and Rescue Department.
