Two men charged in alleged assault case
Two men from Amaluia have been charged in relation to an assault incident that occurred during the first week of April, during curfew hours.
The victim suffered severe injuries including a fractured nose requiring seven stitches and was hospitalized as a result.
Andrew Andrew and Alema Foafoainuuese are each held on bail of $5,000 and are facing assault second degree and public peace disturbance.
Court filing says that Christopher Shaw, the complaining witness was sitting at a bus stop drinking beer during curfew and Andrew warned him twice that he can't consume alcohol at the bus stop.
However, Shaw allegedly refused and shouted profanity words towards Andrew. The defendant claims that Shaw struck him with a pipe causing his nose to bleed.
It’s further alleged that's when Andrew struck Shaw with a golf bat in the face, causing injuries to his nose and mouth.
At the hospital the complaining witness told Police that three men beat him up.
Police also spoke to co-defendant Alema, who claimed that he attempted to stop the fight between Andrew and Shaw however, he kicked him and so he grabbed whatever was within his reach and struck him.
