Victim identified

The victim in the death-related incident over the weekend was 69-year-old Kereta Vaalili.

As first reported by KVKZ, the man was found dead early Saturday morning in a stream next to the marketplace in Fagatogo faced down.

The deceased suffered a severe cut on his head. The defendant in this case, Roy Pitolau, faces charges of manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, and third-degree assault.

Pitolau, a father of eight, appeared in the District Court on Monday.

However, due to the absence of the Public Defender, this case has been rescheduled for Friday.

Police said the deceased farmer was struck from behind while standing next to the stream. The victim fell into the stream as a result. According to the Police, this case is related to a domestic violence incident.
